2、hismuseumhas5halls，andwearenowintheintroductionhall.thishallistoillustratethepedagogicalideasweupholdandtheeducationalphilosophywefollow.ifyoulookstraightahead，wecanseeouruniversitylogoontheceiling;thewhitepartofthislogoisintheshapeofaboat，whichissailingonthebluesea.thislogoindicatesthedevelopmentof

3、ouruniversitywillbesmoothandswift.ontheright，itisabriefsketchofthehistoricaldevelopmentofouruniversity，togetherwithourphilosophyofschooling;ouruniversityhasaprofoundhistorywhichspansmorethan100years.andtheuniversityanthemisontheleft.nowwewillpresentyouthisantheminchinese.（扬子江边黄家湖畔）ouruniversitymotto

4、ishere：“virtue，erudition，practicalityandsteadiness”.theseexhibitionsaretodemonstrateouruniversitysstrongassociationwiththeironandsteelindustryandthespiritofouruniversity，whichhasbeensummarizedas“perseveranceinhardships，readinessforduty，endeavorforexcellence，andconsistencyinwordsanddeeds”. now，wouldy

5、oupleasefollowmetothesecondsection。there，weshallseethe“incubationyears”ofouruniversity.wuhanuniversityofscienceandtechnology，orwust，datesbacktothehubeigongyixuetang（hubeitechnicalinstitute）in1898foundedbyzhangzhidong（1837-1909），governorgeneralofhubei，hunan，guangdongandguangxiprovincesinthelateqingdy

6、nasty.thisisgovernorzhangandhisapplicationdocumenttotheemperorforapprovaloftheschoolfounding.hubeitechnicalschoolwasoneoftheearliestofitskindinchinaofferingtechnicaleducation，anditmarksthefirstpageofouruniversity.itscampusatthattimewaslocatedintodayswuchangdistrict，whichishereonthemap，about15kilomet

7、ersawayfromhere. thetileherewasusedfortheconstructionofhubeitechnicalschool，ithasalsobeenawardedasthenationalculturalrelic.therearealltogether26itemsinthismuseumhavewonthistitle.duetohistoricalreasons，hubeitechnicalschoolmoveditscampusseveraltimesandchangeditsnamemorethanonce.duringthisperiod，manywe

8、ll-knownscientistsandscholarstaughtintheschool，includinglisiguang，ageologist;amongitsfamousstudentswerezhaoshimei，themakeroftherevolutionaryflaginthewuchanguprisingofthe1911revolution;thereareotherprofessorsbeingtheteachersofouruniversity.baoding，anarchitect;helvting，amusician;andpanliangru，ascienti

9、st.inthesummerof1938，whentheinvadingjapanesearmyapproachedtowuhan，forthesafetyofitsteachersandstudents，hubeitechnicalschoolmergedwithotherschoolsandbecametheadvancedindustrybranchschoolofhubeiunitedschool，whichmovedfirsttowesternhubei，latertosichuan，andfinallysettledinenshiprefectureofhubeiprovince.

10、andthisistheanthemofhubeiunitedschool，thelyricsofwhichreflectsthestudentsandteachersconcernsaboutthewarandtheirhopeforthefuture. astheanti-japanesewarcametotheend，theschoolmovedbacktowuhanin1946.startingfromscratch，itbeganthereconstructionwork，underthenewnameoftheprovincialhanyangvocationalschoolofa

11、dvancedindustry.thesepicturesshowthestudentsconductingexperimentsandextracurricularactivities.theitemsinthisshowcasearethetextbooks，examinationpapers，andgraduationpapersofstudentsatthattime. thethirdpartoftheexhibitionsisdevotedtotheyearsafterthefoundingofthepeoplesrepublicofchina.aftertheliberation

12、ofwuhanin1949，theschoolchangeditsnametowuchangadvancedindustrialschool.itwasoneofthetopfouradvancedschoolsinthecountryatthattime.fromthesepictures，youmightgetageneralideaofwhattheschoolwaslike.pleasehavealookatthesephoto，theywereshotduringthesessionsofthenationalpeoplescongress. theyear1958sawimmens

13、eeffortsofthechinesegovernmentinpushingforwardthedevelopmentofthemetallurgicalindustry.toanswertheneedofmoreengineersandtechniciansinthefieldofironandsteel，thethenministryofmetallurgicalindustrydecidedtosetupwuhanironandsteelinstituteonthebasisofwuchangadvancedindustrialschoolandbyrelyingontheresour

14、cesofwuhanironandsteelcompany.thisisalistofthenamesofuniversityleadersthroughoutthoseyears. thepicturehereshowschairmanmaozedong，accompaniedbyliyiqing，thefirstpresidentofouruniversityandthegeneralmanagerofwuhanironandsteelcompanyonaninspectiontourofwuhanironandsteelcompanyin1958.theothertwopicturess

15、howprof.taohanying，ateacherofouruniversity，didinterpretationformaozedong，chairmanofthecentralcommitteeofthecpc，andzhude，chairmanofthestandingcommitteeofthenationalpeoplescongress，intheirmeetingswiththesovietexperts.thenewly-establishedwuhanironandsteelinstituteinheritedtheglorioustraditionofhubeitec

16、hnicalschoolandwuchangadvancedindustrialschool，andsurpassedthetwoinbothteachingandresearch.itstressedtheimportanceofcooperatingwithenterprises，andthesepicturesshowteachershelpingenterprisessolvetechnicalproblems.in1986，anumberofgraduatesofwuhanironandsteelinstituterodebikestotakeofficeinxinjiangiron

17、andsteelcompany.thewholejourneytookalmost40daysandcovered4000miles.nowwehaveenteredthetimecorridorofthismuseum，whereweshallwitnessthetransitionofouruniversitytothemodernperiod.panelshereshowtheothertwooriginsofourunisersity.thatiswuhanjuniorcollegeofconstructionwhichwasfoundedin1954，andwuhanjuniorme

18、dicalcollegeofmetallurgicalindustrywhichwasfoundedin1960.in1995，wuhanironandsteelinstitute，wuhanjuniorcollegeofconstruction，andwuhanjuniormedicalcollegeofmetallurgicalindustrymergedintowuhanuniversityofmetallurgicalscienceandtechnology.in1999，theuniversitywasrenamedagain，thistimeintowuhanuniversityo

19、fscienceandtechnology，whichmarkedanewpageintheuniversityshistory. thefourthsectionisdedicatedtothemodernperiod，andhereyouwillseesomeoftheremarkableachievementsofouruniversity.thesepicturesweretakenwhenseniorleadersofthecentralgovernmentorthecpcvisitedouruniversity.weshouldsaythattheachievementswehav

20、emadeinthepastyearsshouldbelargelyattributedtothesupportwehavereceivedfromvariouslevelsofgovernment. disciplinaryconstructionhasbeenthefocusofouruniversitywork，andconsequentlythisisthefieldwhichwehavemademostremarkableaccomplishmentsin.atpresent，wehave：6post-doctoralresearchstations;20doctoraldegree

21、programs;96mastersdegreeprograms 15collegeswhichoffer73bachelorsdegreeprograms; wustclaimsakeydisciplineunderincubationaccreditedbythecentralgovernment，and27accreditedbyhubeiprovince.itisalsothehomeof l1nationalkeylaboratoryunderincubation，2keylaboratoriesaccreditedbytheministryofeducation，and8accre

22、ditedbyhubeiprovince，l3humanitiesandsocialsciencesresearchbasesaccreditedbyhubeiprovincel1engineeringtechnologycenteraccreditedbytheministryofeducation. inthe2021rankingofacademicprogramsincollegesanduniversitiesofchinaissuedbytheministryofeducation，ouruniversitysmetallurgicalengineeringandminingeng

23、ineeringrankamongthetop10;8programsinouruniversityrankamongthetop50，thisshouldbeaconvincingindicatoroftheacademicstrengthofouruniversity. academicstrengthcomesonlyfromexcellentstaff.inthisrespect，wehavealottotakepridein：8adjunctacademiciansofthechineseacademyofengineering，and60distinguishedvisitingp

24、rofessorshonoredas“chutianscholars”;.30teachersofouruniversityhavewonthetitleof“new-centuryacademicleader”;5arerecognizedas“nationalmodelteacher”and1“nationaloutstandingteacher-thatisourpresidentkongjianyi”;and63gotspecialallowanceawardedbythestatecouncilorhubeiprovincialgovernment.excellentteaching

25、stuffcreatedplenteousachievementsinscientificresearch，thisshowcaseshowsthatsince2021，ouruniversityhasgainednationalgradeprizeofscienceandtechnologyprogressfor16times，amongthem，thereareonefirstprize，twelvesecondprizes，andthreenationalawardfortechnologyinvention.theyhavegreatsignificancetoouruniversit

26、y，whichisthea-listawardinchina.thesephotosweretakenwhentheprofessorsreceivingtheawardsinthegreathallofthepeople.youcanalsofindthepresidentxiinthefirstrow. weshouldalwaysbearinmindthatteachingandresearcharethetwomostimportantmissionsofcollegesanduniversities.toraiseeducationalqualityandpromotefirst-r

27、ateresearch，ouruniversityhasinvestedahugeamountofmoneyandintroducedaseriesofrulesandregulationstoitsteachingandresearchpractice.someoftheachievementsworthmentioningareasfollows：inteaching，wustboastsl3teachingandlearningteamatthenationallevell1nationalexemplarycenterforexperimentteachingl7exemplaryco

28、ursesatthenationallevel，andl6distinguishedprogramsatthenationallevelinthepastfiveyears，theteachersandresearchersinouruniversityhaveundertaken248keyresearchprojectssponsoredbythestate，andwon77researchprizesincluding7nationalawardsforscientificandtechnologicaladvancement. thesephotosandpicturesillustr

29、atesomeoftheachievementstheuniversityhasmadeinteachingandresearch.servingthesocietyhasbeenourcontinuousconcern.tothisend，wehaveestablishedclosecooperativerelationshipwith20-plusbigenterprisesandanumberofregionalgovernments.thesearephotosandpicturesillustratingwhatwehavedoneinthisrespect. weareconsci

30、ousthattheproducinghighqualitygraduatesshouldbetheultimategoalofallourwork.weattachutmostimportancetoall-rounddevelopmentofstudents，withspecialattentiongiventothecultivationoftheirinnovativeability.wehaveallocated600thousandyuanandcreatedaspecialfundforstudentsinnovativeactivities，andinthepastfewyea

32、heworldchampion10times，andalsothenationalchampion13time.thisyear，ourteamwontheworldchampionoffiraagaininseoul，korea.studentsinouruniversityhavereceivedgoldawardincollegestudentsentrepreneurialcompetition，specialawardinthecompetitionofsmartcarsforstudentsinuniversitiesandcolleges，firstprizeincolleges

33、tudentscontestinmodeling.besides，studentswonreddotdesignawardtwice，andspecialawardincollegeenglishcompetitions.ourwomenbasketballteamarewell-knowninthecountry.wehadwonthechampionformanytimesinnationaluniversitygames，andothercompetitionslikecuba，cubs.wecultivatedmanyplayersatthenationallevel，thenatio

34、nalteamleadermiaolijie，forexample. wearenowintheeraofglobalization.now，internationalcooperationisstrategictothesustainablegrowthofauniversity.therefore，wusthasbeenveryactiveinbuildingandmaintainingacademictieswithuniversitiesaroundtheworld.weenjoyregularacademicexchangeswith30-plusuniversitiesincoun
