5、ow love and hate are reflected in Romeo and Juliet, and also it will give a right comment to the two heroes brave behavior. This famous tragedy is full of enthusiastic and romantic. The reason for the tragedy is the contrast between the two young lovers and their families hate. It expresses the conf

6、lict between free love and feudal force. Love and hate go through the whole story, the love of the two lovers make them look down upon their families hate, they even died for love. They fell in love with each other deeply at the first sight in a dancing party. In the garden, with the moonlight, they

7、 expressed their love. They got marry secretly. True love gives the hero and heroin courage to pursuer the free love. Although Juliet knows that Romeo was from her enemys son. She can not help resisting her love to Romeo, it is love that gives their courage to fight against feudalism. Love also give

8、s their loyalty. They choose death to show their faithful love to their lovers. Their love never ended by the boundary of their hatred. With the true love they never mind ending their precious lives. No matter how hard the reality is, love is always the most powerful thing to make their life signifi

14、 to William ShakespeareWilliam Shakespeare (1564-1615) was an English dramatist and poet, generally regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. He wrote 37 plays and 154 sonnets in his lifetime. His imagination, his richness of language and his deep understanding of human behaviors have

15、 made him universally known and loved. His influence on English literature and on the writers of other countries is immense.When he was seven, he went to a grammar school. But at the age of fourteen, he had to be a schoolmaster to help support his family because of the decline of his family. After a

16、rriving in London he was connected with drama. He used blank verse developed in to a happy vehicle to express all kinds of thought and emotion freely. He writes so many famous works, such as Merchant of Venice, You Like It, Hamlet, King Lear and so on.William Shakespeare is one of the founders of re

17、alism in world literature. His dramatic creation often used the method of adaptations. His long experience with the stage and his intimate knowledge of dramatic art thus acquired make him a master hand for playwriting. He was a great master of the English language. He was skilled in many poetic form

24、s in the process of the literature and art. There are a lot of researchers to do some researches about the characters of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliets love is full of renaissance humanists of romantic emotional appeal. Shakespearean studies spreading from England has become a significant part

25、of western thoughts and culture. For example, Raymond Ross(1946) studied the train of thought, idea and form of Shakespeares work. He studied William Shakespeares work from his idea and form. But another scholar, Helge Kokeritz(1961), studied some details of William Shakespeares work. He studied Wil

26、liam Shakespeares pronunciation, offering a thorough study of sixteenth and senventeenth century phonology and concluding that William Shakespeares pronunciation similar to Northern Irish.Otherwise some researchers studied William Shakespeares works from other aspects. For example, John Barton(1984)

27、 demonstrates how to adapt Elizabethan theater for the modern stage by explicating William Shakespeares verse and prose, speeches and soliloquies, and naturalistic and heightened language. At the same time, Michael D.C(2006) studied Shakespearian grammar, he provided the differences between Early Mo

28、dern English grammar and that of nowadays by the study of William Shakespeares Romeo and Julie. In addition, Robert Thomas Fallon(2008) studied the language of characters in William Shakespeares works. For instance, the oxymoron and pun with the language of Romeo and Juliet. At the same time, he als

29、o demonstrated the skills that use and express these words on the stage. 2.2 Studies at homeThere is also some scholars studied Romeo and Juliet in China, it is Yan Fu(1989) who first introduces William Shakespeare. In the preface footnote of his translation version published officially, he introduc

Here it is necessary to emphasize a special scholar, Hu Wenjing(1982), she also did the study of form in William Shakespeares work from different aspects, just like the study from Raymond Ross. He thinks that William Shakespeare uses too much antithesis in Romeo and Juliet, and the use of antithesis makes t

33、he work more wonderful. These researchers studied William Shakespeare and his works from the aspects of grammar, language, figure of speech, idea, train of thought, form and so on. 34、uliet3.1 Love and hate of Romeo and Juliet 3.1.1 Love of Romeo and JulietRomeo and Juliet is sometimes considered to have no unifying theme, save that of young love. In fact, the characters in it have become emblems of all who die young for their lovers. Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet were victim

35、s of Cupids arrows. They were truly “star-crossed.” Juliet needed Romeo to get away from her overprotective parents who were planning for future. If Juliet was going to disobey her parents, they would have disowned her. Ironically, at the party that Lord Capulet held so that Juliet could meet her pr

36、ojected husband, Romeo. They met by chance, looking into each others eyes and instantly being attracted. Their first conversation was sealed with a kiss. Although Romeo and Juliet knew a relationship wouldnt be accepted with them being from feuding families. It was too late for them to turn back tho

37、ugh, they had fallen in love. In an act of impulse, the two were secretly married by Friar Lawrence. Next I will talk about Romeo and Juliets love from their personality.3.1.1.1 Romeo and Juliets love embodied in their personalitiesThe name Romeo, in popular culture, has become nearly synonymous wit

38、h “lover.” Romeo, in Romeo and Juliet, his character is far more complex.Romeo is brave and full of passion, even knows that Juliet is the enemys daughter, he is also brave to love, kiss, marry Juliet. Even Romeos relation to love is not so simple. At the beginning of the play, Romeo pines for Rosal

39、ine, proclaiming her is so perfect and despairing at her indifference toward him. Romeo reads a lot of love poetry, and the description of his love for Rosaline suggests he is trying to re-create the feelings that he has read about. After first kissing Juliet, she tells him “you kiss by the book”(p9

40、2) meaning that he kisses according to the rules that are in the book. But the love Juliet shares with Romeo is far deeper, truer and unique than the love Romeo felt for Rosaline. Romeos love becomes mature over the course of the play from the shallow desire to be in love to a profound and intense p

41、assion. One must ascribe Romeos development at least in part to Juliet. Her level-headed observations, such as the one about Romeos kissing, seem just the thing to stop Romeo from keeping his shallow idea of love and to inspire him to begin to speak some of the most beautiful and intense love poetry

42、 ever written.At the same time, Romeo is loyal to his true love. Romeo does not know anything about the Friars plan, so when he gets back to Verona, he thinks of his wife was dead and see her lying in her tomb. He drinks a kind of poison to kill himself. For Juliet, she is and obedient girl. Having

43、not quite reached her fourteenth birthday; Juliet is of an age that stands on the border between immaturity and maturity. At the plays beginning however she seems merely an obedient, sheltered child. When Lady Capulet mentions Pariss interest in marrying Juliet, Juliet dutifully responds that she wi

44、ll try to see if she can love him, a response that seems childish in its obedience and in its immature conception of love. Juliet gives glimpses of her determination, strength, and sober-mindedness, in her earliest scenes, and offers a preview of the woman she will become during the five-day span of

45、 Romeo and Juliet. While Lady Capulet proves unable to quiet the nurse, Juliet succeeds with one word. In addition, even in Juliets obedient acquiescence to try to love Paris, there is some seed of steely determination. Juliet promises to consider Paris as a possible husband to the clear degree her

46、mother desires. While an outward show of obedience, such a statement can also be read as a refusal through passivity. Juliet will be agree with her mothers wishes, but she will not go out of her way to fall in love with Paris. She is brave to against the feudalism when she couldnt help falling in lo

47、ve with Romeo, she expresses her love directly.Juliets first meeting with Romeo propels her full-force toward adulthood. Though profoundly in love with him, Juliet is able to see and criticize Romeos rash decisions and his tendency to romanticize things. After Romeo kills Tybalt and is banished, Jul

48、iet does not follow him blindly. She makes a logical and heartfelt decision that her loyalty and love for Romeo must be her guiding priorities. Essentially, Juliet cuts herself loose from her prior social mooringsher Nurse, her parents, and her social position in Veronain order to try to reunite with Romeo.
