10、tes，withhundredsofthousandsmorelearninginasia，africa，europe，andlatinamerica. yoursocialandeconomictransformationhasbeenevenmoreremarkable，movingfromaclosedcommandeconomicsystemtoadriving，increasinglymarket-basedanddriveneconomy，generatingtwodecadesofunprecedentedgrowth，givingpeoplegreaterfreedomtotr

11、avelwithinandoutsidechina，tovoteinvillageelections，toownahome，chooseajob，attendabetterschool.asaresultyouhaveliftedliterallyhundredsofmillionsofpeoplefrompoverty.percapitaincomehasmorethandoubledinthelastdecade.mostchinesepeopleareleadinglivestheycouldnothaveimaginedjust20yearsago. ofcourse，thesecha

12、ngeshavealsobroughtdisruptionsinsettledpatternsoflifeandwork，andhaveimposedenormousstrainsonyourenvironment.onceeveryurbanchinesewasguaranteedemploymentinastateenterprise.nowyoumustcompeteinajobmarket.onceachineseworkerhadonlytomeetthedemandsofacentralplannerinbeijing.nowtheglobaleconomymeansallmust

20、ing，ofenvironmentaldegradation，andsevereeconomicdislocation.nonationcanisolateitselffromtheseproblems，andnonationcansolvethemalone.we，especiallytheyoungergenerationsofchinaandtheunitedstates，mustmakecommoncauseofourcommonchallenges，sothatwecan，together，shapeanewcenturyofbrilliantpossibilities. inthe
