Its not the house that is special, but rather the person who lives inside.I met Miss C about 45 years ago when she was my sisters kindergarten teacher. I see that Mom and Mamma shared their great love for us, their children, and for our children, their grandchildren。 I come from a long line of letter writers and was trained to stay in touch with our parents. My grandparents loved t

13、o receive letters from across the ocean. When I was away on a student exchange in 1970, my mother told me that my grandfather kept my airmail letters in his shirt pocket and read them daily. Knowing this, I have tried my best to write to our two families regularly. To all of you who write to me, I t

14、hank you. The handwritten word is a powerful tool of friendship; it connects us together. Perhaps the greatest gift that these letters have given me is to see how much my husbands parents cherished our letters to them. 20、ship (奖学金). I found articles and books online to become fluent in Japanese. In a few months, I was able to hold a simple conversation in Japanese. I realized that I would need money. I set out to build a hedgehog (刺猬) care website. Every day, after school, I would research hedgehogs and write detail

21、ed articles about them. I studied Japanese and wrote about hedgehogs for three years. Im sure youre expecting a spirit-lifting ending where I travel to Japan and live off my website. Thats not how this story ends. The fact is, I didnt even get the chance to apply for the scholarship. I failed. Unwil

22、ling to accept the facts, I started an online university the next year. And the hedgehog website made me a total of $60. I can tell you that I tried, but it didnt work out. It did just not the way I expected. Im not in Japan, but I know how to speak Japanese and have met many interesting people alon

31、small firepit not far from the roar of the expressway. Weve found lots of wooden huts (小屋) and other structures, passed by washed-out roads and spotted (带斑点的) birds in the trees.  Before the pandemic, I might have found these places too urban to be beautiful. I might have thought of them as a p

32、oor replacement for the wildlands I desire. And yet, I realize that Ive changed. Ive seen the personal architecture of the city.  These wildlands seem exactly right for me at this moment. The citys edges reflect our new normal. The pandemic has changed our lives. Like so many others, its left m
