7、 PPT to show students acartoon figure called“Mr.Nature”and show somepictures of disasters to let students recognize them,thus can develop stu dents interest in learning byadding a human element to the natural world.Askstudents whether they have experienced an earthquaketoimprovetheirunderstandingoft
8、hecausesofearthquakes.let the students discuss the warningsigns before an earthquake and enable them to realizethese strange signs in order to get ready to avoidunnecessary losses.Finally let the students look atthe title A NIGHT THE EARTH DIDNT SLEEP and understandthe meaning of it.In the part of f
9、ast-reading,I list some new wordsin this unit and paraphrase them in English to improvethe thinking ability of the students.Then skim thepassage and answer a few questions which are not verydifficult to them to arouse their interest in learning.While reading intensively,I make the studentslisten to
10、the tape in the process of reading so as toachieve the unity of listening and reading.Intensivereading is divided into three parts:true or false,fillin the forms and retell the passage.True or falseexamines students understanding of the article.Fillin the forms is a supplement to the right and wrong
11、.Retell the passage requests the students to combinewith what they wrote in the form,thus can improvestudents oral English.Meanwhile,I play the part ofthe movie of TangShan Earthquake directed by FengXiaogang to make the students feel the havoc of theearthquakes and deepen the understanding of the c
12、ontentto arouse students interest in the text.Thepartofpostreadingwasbasedonthecomprehension of the passage.Students can not onlyimprove their ability of communication,but also gainknowledge of protecting themselves from various kindsofdisastersbydiscussionandinterviews.Theseactivitiescan cultivatet
