Cheng Weis thesis attempts to put Darcy in Pride and Prejudice and Rochester in Jane Eyre in their respective historical contexts, thus revealing the evolution of the male protagonists in the first three or forty ye

The development of Jane Austens creative thought from persuasion written by Qiu Yin (Fudan Journal (SOCIAL SCIENCE EDITION) (1992, No.l) and Lin Wenchens brief discussion on persuasion (foreign literature review, 2000, issue 1) all take Austins last novel as research objects

The former holds that persuasion not only embodies Austen*s changes in values and moral conceptsn in her later years, but also illustrates her transformation from rationalism to Romanticism”. The latter emphasizes that if Austens previous novels describe how
