10、ope in the 19th century. Born on 15 August 1769 in Ajaccio on the island of Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea, Napoleon was the second of eight surviving children. He was sent to a French military school at the age of nine. His good grades gained him entry to the military academy of Paris. Napoleon c

11、ompleted the course and then joined the army as an officer. The French Revolution made possible Napoleons quick rise to military greatness. While the revolution was still raging on, Napoleon took on the challenge of defending the revolutionary government, winning battle after battle. He was made com

12、mander-in-chief of French forces in Italy in 1796. In 1799, Napoleon took power over the entire country, which ultimately led to more than a decade of war in Europe.He was finally defeated in 1814.Though Napoleon did drag France into many wars, which cost millions of lives, he also has helped preser

13、ve and develop the fruits of the French Revolution. The decade after the revolution was very chaotic, and Napoleon brought order to the country. His Civil Code unified the laws in France, and it was introduced in the countries he conquered. In fact, Napoleons Civil Code is still living law in many parts of the world.教学反思
