4、rlierbyTangEmpressWuZetiantobuildgiantstatuesacrossthecountry.HistoryAftertheTangDynasty,thesitewentintoagradualdecline,andconstructionofnewcavesceasedentirelyaftertheYuanDynasty.Islam（伊斯兰教）hadconqueredmuchofCentralAsia,andtheSilkRoaddeclinedinimportancewhentradingviasea-routesbegantodominateChinese
