Until he relearns these things he will write as though he stood among andwatched the end of man. I decline to accept the end of man. It is easy enough tosay that man is immortal simply because he

15、together. For the families of the seven we cannot bear as you do the full impact ofthis tragedy. But we feel the loss and we&39;re thinking about you so very much.Your loved ones were daring and brave and they had that special grace thatspecial spirit that says "Give me a challenge and I&39;ll

16、meet it with joy." Theyhad a hunger to explore the universe and discover its truths. They wished toserve and they did. They served all of us. We&39;ve grown used to wonders in this century. It&39;s hard to dazzle us. Butfor twenty-five years the United States space program has been doing just t

17、hat.We&39;ve grown used to the idea of space and perhaps we forget that we&39;ve only justbegun. We&39;re still pioneers. They the members of the Challenger crew werepioneers. And I want to say something to the schoolchildren of America who werewatching the live coverage of the shuttle&39;s take-off

23、and tocomprehend and replace that violence that stain of bloodshed that has spreadacross our land with an effort to understand compassion and love. For those of you who are black and are tempted to fill with - be filledwith hatred and mistrust of the injustice of such an act against all whitepeople

24、I would only say that I can also feel in my own heart the same kind offeeling. I had a member of my family killed but he was killed by a whiteman. One hundred years later, the Negro isstill languishing in the corners of American society and finds himself an exilein his own land. So we have come here today to dramatize an appallingcondition. When thearchitects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution andthe declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to whichevery American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men would beguaranteed the inalienable

29、 rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit ofhappiness. It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory noteinsofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacredobligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check which has come backmarked "insuf

30、ficient funds." But we refuse to believe that the bank of justiceis bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the greatvaults of opportunity of this nation. So we have come to cash this check - acheck that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security

31、 ofjustice. We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierceurgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or totake the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to rise from the darkand desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of raci

32、al justice. Now isthe time to open the doors of opportunity to all of God&39;s children. Now is thetime to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solidrock of brotherhood. It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment andto underestimate the determina

33、tion of the Negro. This sweltering summer of theNegro&39;s legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigoratingautumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but abeginning. Those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will nowbe content will have a r

34、ude awakening if the nation returns to business asusual. There will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro isgranted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shakethe foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges. But there is somethin

35、g that I must say to my people who stand on the warmthreshold which leads into the palace of justice. In the process of gaining ourrightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds.
