4、28 until 1658.The name Shah Jahan comes from Persian meaning King of the World.He is considered to be one of the greatest Mughals and his reign has been called the Golden Age of the Mughals and one of the most prosperous ages of the Indian civilization.Mumtaz MahalMumtaz Mahals old name was Arjumand

5、 Banu Begum.Arjumand Banu Begum was married at the age of 19,to Shah Jahan,who conferred upon her the title Mumtaz Mahal.She mothered fourteen children in eighteen years by Shah Jahan.But there were only four sons and three daughters surviced.Despite her frequent pregnancies,Mumtaz travelled with Sh

6、ah Jahans entourage throughout his earlier military campaigns.Mumtaz died in in 1631,while giving birth to their fourteenth child.She had been accompanying her husband while he was fighting a campaign in the Deccen Plateau.Shah Jahan intended to build a black monument same as the Taj Mahal on the op

7、posite side of the river so that he could company his wife forever.Soon after the Taj Mahals completion,Shah Jahan was deposed by his son and put under house arrest near Taj Mahal.The subsequent eight years he saw the Taj Mahal through a small window.Upon Shah Jahans death,his son buried him in the mausoleum next to his wife.For good or ill it is a good ending.
