4、ngineering,IamwritingtoapplyforacceptanceintoyourPh.D.graduateprogram.In1995,IenteredtheNanjingUniversityofScienceTechnology(NUST)-widelyconsideredoneoftheChinasbestengineeringschools.Duringthefollowingundergraduatestudy,myacademicrecordskeptdistinguishedamongthewholedepartment.IwasgrantedFirstClass

5、Prizeeverysemester,andmyoverallGPA(89.5/100)rankedNo.1among113students.In1999,Igottheprivilegetoenterthegraduateprogramwaivedoftheadmissiontest.IselectedtheShanghaiJiaoTongUniversitytocontinuemystudyforitsbestreputationonCombinatorialOptimizationandNetworkSchedulingwheremyresearchinterestlies.Atthep

6、eriodofmygraduatestudy,myoverallGPA(3.77/4.0)rankedtop5%inthedepartment.Inthesecondsemester,Ibecameteacherassistantthatisgiventotalentedandmaturedstudentsonly.Thisyear,IwontheAcerScholarshipastheoneandonlycandidateinmydepartment,whichistheultimateaccoladefordistinguishedstudentsendowedbymyuniversity

7、.Presently,IampreparingmygraduationthesisandtryingforthehonorofExcellentGraduationThesis.Researchexperienceandacademicactivity，Whenasophomore,IjoinedtheAssociationofAIEnthusiastandbegantonarrowdownmyinterestformyfutureresearch.In1997,IparticipatedinsimulationtooldevelopmentfortheschedulingsysteminPr

8、of.Wangslab.WiththetoolofOpenGLandMatlab,Idesignedasimulationprogramfortransportationschedulingsystem.ItisnowwidelyusedbydifferentresearchgroupsinNUST.In1998,IassumedandfulfilledasewageanalysisdisposeprojectforNanjingsewagetreatmentplant.Thiswasmyfirstpracticetoconvertalaboratoryideatoacommercialpro

9、duct.In1999,IjoinedthedistinguishedProfessorYu-GengXisresearchgroupaimingatNetworkflowproblemsolvingandHeuristicalgorithmresearch.SoonIwasengagedintheFuDanGeneDatabaseDesign.Mydutywastopickuptheusefulinformationamongdifferentkindsofgenematchingformat.Throughthecomparisonandanalysisformanyheuristical

10、gorithms,Iintroducedanimprovedevolutionaryalgorithm-Multi-populationGeneticAlgorithm.Bydividingawholepopulationintoseveralsub-populations,thisimprovedalgorithmcaneffectivelypreventGAfromlocalconvergenceandpromotevariousevolutionaryorientations.ItprovedmoreefficientlythanSGAinexperiments,too.Inthesec

11、ondsemester,Ijoinedtheworkshop-schedulingresearchinShanghaiHeavyDutyTyreplant.Theschedulingwasdesignedfortherubber-makingprocessthatcoverednotonlydiscretebutalsocontinuouscircumstances.Tomakeabalancepointbetweenoptimizationqualityandtimecost,IproposedaDynamicLayeredSchedulingmethodbasedonhybridPetri

12、Nets.Thepracticalapplicationshowedthattheaveragemakespanwasshortenedbyalargescale.Ialsopublicizedtwopapersincorejournalswiththisidea.Recently,IamdoingresearchintheCompositePredictoftheElectricalPowersystemassistedwiththetechnologyofDataMiningforBaoSteel.ItrytocombinetheDecisionTreewithRecedingOptimi

13、zationtoprovideanewsolutionfortheCompositePredictiveProblem.Thisprojectisnowunderconstruction.Besides,InJuly2000,IgottheopportunitytogivealectureinEnglishinAsiaControlConference(ASCC)whichisoneofthetop-levelconferencesamongtheworldintheareaofcontrolandautomation.Inmysenioryear,ImetProf.Xiao-SongLin,

14、avisitingprofessorofmathematicsfromUniversityofCalifornia-Riverside,Ilearnedgraphtheoryfromhimformynetworkresearch.TheseexperiencesallrapidlyexpandedmyknowledgeofEnglishandtheunderstandingofwesternculture.Ihopetostudyindepth.Inretrospect,Ifindmyselfstandingonasolidbasisinboththeoryandexperience,whic

15、hhaspreparedmeforthePh.D.program.Myfutureresearchinterestsinclude:NetworkSchedulingProblem,HeuristicAlgorithmresearch(especiallyinGAandNeuralnetwork),Supplychainnetworkresearch,HybridsystemperformanceanalysiswithPetrinetsandDataMining.Pleasegivemyapplicationmaterialsaseriousconsideration.Thankyouverymuch.
