3、n. I contrasted English motion expressions with those in Spanish and Serbo-Croatian. English and Spanish belong to two opposing types in the typology, and Serbo-Croatian is classified as the same type as English. I illustrate the effects that different lexicalization patterns can have in a specific

4、context of translation, namely that of translating police interviews with witnesses and suspects from Spanish into English. I also explain the intratypological contrasts that affect translation in the case of English vs. Serbo-Croatian. I propose a number of underlying principles to be used in trans

8、1 Studying translation from a typological perspectiveSlobin (1996; 1997; 2000; 2003) has applied Talmys typology in his analysis of samples from narratives in different languages both experimentally elicited narratives in a number of languages (English, Spanish, Turkish and Russian) on the basis of

9、a picture story (the “Frog Stories”), and literary texts of English and Spanish novelists and their translations. 2.1.2 Typology and motion events in witness interviewsIn order to see whether applying the cognitive typology can be of assistance in resolving some problems in a particular context of t

10、ranslation, I analysed original transcripts of police interviews with Spanish-speaking witnesses and suspects, with translation into English provided by certified court interpreters. 2.2 From typology to translation and backAs stated in 2.2.2, I argue that learning about typological differences can

11、help us predict the origin of potential errors in learning a language and translating from or into it. 3 ConclusionI have discussed a number of typological facts relevant to the process of translation.
