3、高效课堂中显得尤为重要。本文将竞争机制与初中英语教学相结合，首先介绍了三种竞争模式、适用对象、利弊以及解决办法。其次通过实践，对三种类型进行深入分析与探讨。最后重申竞争机制在初中英语教学中的重要作用。关键词：学习竞争；高效课堂；初中英语；竞争机制Research on the Application of Competition Mechanism in Junior Middle School English TeachingAbstract Competition prevails eveywhere in mordern society. With the continuous prog

4、ress and development of the society, the competition is accordingly more fierce. Human beings can improve their abilities constantly through competitive methods. Competition is a specific teaching and learning method for the purpose of stimulating the enthusiasm of students and increasing the effici

5、ency of studying. According to the requirements of the New National English Curriculum Standards, to promote an initiative atmosphere in the class has become a new scientific concept. Therefore, its vital to trigger the students interests in English during the process of creating efficient class. Th

6、is paper binds up the competition mechanism with the English teaching in junior middle school. First, it introduces three competitive models, applicable objects, advantages and disadvantages and the solutions respectively. Second, it analyses and probes into the three models through practice. Then i

Introduction1.1 Analysis of Current SituationNowadays, English has been considered a significant

8、 language for international communication through many countries. People are more and more focused on English education in junior middle school. As everyone knows, English is not only an extremely practical course, but also a commonly-used language tool. One of the key elements of language learning

9、success is the use of language learning strategy (LLS), which supports learners learning in formal education settings and beyond (Alfian et al., 2016).However, numerous problems about English teaching in junior middle school still exist in the current situation that teachers should analyze them clos

10、ely and take measures as soon as possible to change the current situation in English teaching.Under the requirements of the new curriculum standards, English class teaching is compelled to meet the higher standards. Many English teachers have made a lot of efforts to explore a variety of English tea

11、ching methods in middle school (Hui He, 2018).In the teaching course of English in junior middle school, the teachers still dominate the class. The teaching method cannot keep up with the pace of reform. The minority of teachers adopt a student-centered measure, while the majority of them take cramm

12、ing method of teaching to impart knowledge to students. The latter usually causes students to be in a passive position and does more harm to language teaching. That is to say, traditional teaching model will suppress students enthusiasm and interests in study and ignore the true purpose of communica

13、tion(Net 1). Let alone some underachievers in English language learning, they will dislike English more and feel more unfulfilled.There is a saying that interest is the best teacher. At the same time, interest is also the key to learning a language well. Among many teaching methods, competition is u

14、ndoubtedly an important way to arouse students interest in English learning. The teachers who only repeat what the text-book say cant make students focus on their lesson because their curiosity and the sense of competition are gradually developed. Consequently, this paper will elaborate some methods

15、 about changing the teacher-centered English teaching classes in junior middle school. Integrating competition into the classes can not only make classes more vibrant but also motivate the students in English learning. It is necessary to leave more time and space for students in class to cultivate t

16、heir ability of learning autonomously so that they can really become the master of the classroom. A well-designed activity can push the class teaching atmosphere to the climax and make every student devote themselves to the world of English learning. But the poorly-designed one will not receive the

17、expected effect. Whats worse, it can also cause the negative effect, such as class disorder.This paper introduces different forms of competition that are adopted to organize the interaction between teachers and students. These forms will mobilize the learning initiative, promote students interest in

18、 English learning, and sort out students self-confidence by referring to the competition mechanism. Accordingly the satisfactory English teaching effect can be achieved in English teaching of junior middle school.1.2 Importance of the Study Here are the explanations of two proper nouns: Teaching Com

19、petition Mechanism and Catfish Effect. Competitive Mechanism, one of the contents of market mechanism, is the means and method to select the superior and eliminate the inferior in the activities of commodity economy. While the Teaching Competition Method refers to the method to stimulate students in

20、terests and make classroom atmosphere more active during the process of English teaching. Catfish Effect originally comes from the practice of Norwegian fishermen, who put catfish into containers with live sardines to keep them active. This keeps the sardines alive long enough to reach the market, w

21、here they can fetch a higher price than frozen sardines. Catfish effect has been used flexibly by more and more modern enterprises under the pressure of market and enterprise competition (马越 , 2018). A person having no adversaries is just like a kind of animal having no enemies, which would cause an

22、 atmosphere filled with lethargy and sluggishness. So this paper states the importance of the study about the application of competition mechanism in junior middle school English teaching.Firstly, Teaching Competition Mechanism can stimulate students interest in learning. The maximum status in learn

23、ing means the relaxed and focused status(朱淑玲, 2014: 01). Therefore, students will study more efficiently if they are stimulated than forced. Adopting the Catfish Effect and Competition Mechanism can arouse students interests in learning English. Accordingly, the classroom atmosphere and the teaching

24、 effect will be improved a lot. Under such circumstance, teachers will keep energetic and enthusiastic to make the whole class more alive. Students wil feel extremely satisfied during the process. Then students will not just rely on the teachers explanation, instead theyll learn to think independent

If things go on like this, students will learn English with energy, which will help them understand the knowledge fully.Secondly, Teaching Competition Mechanism can enhance the teamwork cooperation. When Catfish Effect is applied in enterprises, employees are more and more aggressive to do their

26、 work. Likewise, during the process of English teaching, Teaching Competition Mechanism can be used more efficiently. Led by the leader of each team, the students act their roles respectively in teamwork and do their best. The communications between groups can initially consolidate the original know

27、ledge and then make the team members know each other better in the competition so as to improve the group cooperation capacity among team members and form a virtuous circle.Thirdly, Teaching Competition Mechanism can help realize the students individual development. The psychologist Piaget said that

28、 thinking, served as operation, refers to an act of internalization. Sukhomlinsky, an Soviet educator, also said that learning can become one of the parts of childrens spirit when knowledge they need to master and activities they love to participate in are combined closely(赖建华, 2009(06): 24-25). Analysis of Different Types of Competition Mechanism in Junior Middle School English Teaching2.1 Introduction of Three TypesIntroducing competition mechanism into teaching is beneficial to encourage students to combine cooperation with competition. The paper divides Teaching Comp

32、etition Mechanism into three categories and here are the introductions of the three modes:Teacher-student competition: Just as its name suggests, it means the competition between teachers and students. It applies to those classes with a small size where the students start to use the competition mech

33、anism.Student-student competition: It can also be classified into two kinds: competition between male and female, competition between teams. It is suitable for those classes with a medium or large size, where students have been accustomed to the competition.Self-competition: It is a state of mind in

34、 which an individual attempts to transcend himself by comparing his past with his present and comparing his present with his future. It means students struggle for themselves constantly by competing with themselves due to their own dissatisfaction (林崇德等, 2003: 687). It is appropriate for those class

35、es where the students learning level is at the middle or even above. And it is also suitable for those underachievers in English learning. Through continuous self-competition, they are able to improve their own academic performance and learn to grow slowly through these activities, so that they can

36、improve their English ability quickly or even catch up with the high-achieving students in the class.When the teaching competition mechanism need to be used, teachers can combine these three methods mentioned above together in order to control the class more efficiently.2.2 Analysis of the Pros and

37、ConsTeacher-student relationship is a special social and interpersonal relationship. It is a multi-nature and multi-level relationship system formed by teachers and students through direct exchange activities of teaching and learning in their own unique identities and positions in order to achieve e

38、ducational goals. A good teacher-student relationship is not only a indispensable means to successfully complete the teaching tasks, but also a concrete embodiment of the value in the teaching activities. The cooperative and interactive teacher-student relationship means that students become equal p

39、articipants in the educational process. Through competition, cooperation, negotiation and compromise, teachers and students reach a consensus, and thus forming an interpersonal relationship with mutual understanding, mutual learning, mutual promotion and mutual influence(易朝晖, 郑中兵, 2004(06): 37-39).

40、But there are still some disadvantages. Firstly, it is extremely difficult to control the order and easy to cause classroom disorder when students and teachers are competing. Secondly, teachers cannot take each student into consideration such as the underachievers in English language learning, intro

41、verted students because of the large number of students, which is easy to aggravate polarization of the class.Student-student competition, the most widely used competitive and cooperative method in the school, requires teachers to explain the rules and then divide the students into a number of group

42、s according to the seats or other reasons. Firstly, it is the most favorable to the development of all students because their advantages can be well utilized. Secondly, it is helpful to improve the students sense of community and competition. When students discuss in groups, they dare to express the

43、ir ideas in English and participate in the discussion so that their oral English will be improved significantly. At the end of discussion, students awareness of competition, unity and honor will be highlighted greatly. Thirdly, it is conductive to consolidate the teaching content. In the process of

44、students discussion with team members, students will follow teachers instructions and requirements to practice. According to the repetition constantly, students are in a position to master the details of this lesson more firmly(王娟娟, 2019(49): 113). But there are still some disadvantages. Firstly, it

45、 requires too much time. Before discussion, students must need much time to familiarize the rules and then output their thoughts respectively. Secondly, students are easy to focus on the results of the activity. The basic requirements of a lesson is to get students to know the knowledge well. But if

46、 competitive activities are added into a course, students may become concerned more about the results rather than the knowledge itself they should learn.In terms of the form, self-competition is a relatively simple competitive activity, because there is no need for diversity in form. Students set th

47、eir goals by themselves, which is the process of self-transcendence. In terms of the content, self-competition requires students to transcend themselves and bear more pressure. Therefore there are still some disadvantages for self-competition. Firstly, in this activity, students are supposed to have

48、 high quality and strong ability to bear pressure. During this process, the most pressure is not from others but mostly from themselves. Secondly, self-competition may cause a toneless atmosphere in the classroom if most of students are inclined to competing with themselves.2.3 Proposals of Solution

49、sFor the teacher-student competition, first of all, teachers and students had better maintain a certain distance. After all, teachers and students are people with two different levels.
