14、cording to the US Department of Labor.This high cost forces women to make difficult choices.A KFF study showed that 1 in 4 women had problems paying medical bills in 2020.Of that group,almost half said that medical bills made it difficult to pay for other necessities like housing and food.Meanwhile,
15、the JAMA network pointed out that women are more likely than men to skip a recommended medical test or treatment due to cost.Peppy is one startup working with employers to offer women a solution.Through the Peppy platform,companies can give their employees access to specialized healthcare profession

18、hich has led several femtech startups to focus on fertility benefits.Carrot provides employers and health plan providers with a managed fertility benefit option for several procedures like IVF and egg freezing.The company raised$75M in funding last year after watching its revenue increase 5x over th
19、e previous 2 years.Progyny,another fertility and family-building benefits company,was the first of its kind to go public.At the time of its 2019 IPO,the company was valued at$1.3B.10HOW TECH IS MAKING WOMENS HEALTHCARE MORE EQUITABLE AND ACCESSIBLEOvia Health takes a data-driven approach to reducing
20、 family planning costs and improving outcomes.The startup,which was acquired by Labcorp in 2021,uses its clinical research and algorithms to offer personalized interventions across everything from fertility to caregiver support.The platform is offered through employers as a benefit and,according to
21、the company,delivers a 4x return on investment.Some startups are addressing the high cost of healthcare through creative financing.Gaia works directly with families instead of through employers to make IVF more affordable.It accomplishes this by first measuring potential IVF success rate using its p
22、rediction technology.Clients are then able to make better family planning decisions and reduce the chance of spending thousands of dollars on unsuccessful treatments.Gaia provides a flat rate that doesnt increase for unsuccessful procedures,and it requires those that do successfully give birth to pa
23、y back the cost of completed IVF rounds in monthly installments.Essentially,the plan works like stand-alone insurance,where successful members help cover the costs for those that dont conceive and give birth.VIRTUAL CLINICSThe need to physically attend medical appointments can also be a barrier to w
