Recently, Ive been thinking about friendships the same way high and low-stakes friendships. Since the stakes might be different for men and women, I will limit th
8、is discussion to womens friendships with men and women. 36 Friendships are high stakes when they are intimate ( 亲 密 的 ). 37 We also depend on the otherperson for support in difficult times; advice in times of conflict; and sympathy in times of regret. We feel “known” by them. The loss of a high-stak
9、es friend is painful; it has a noticeable impact on our lives.Low-stakes friendships, on the other hand, are more casual and limited emotionally. We may play bridge or tennis together; go out for dinner with our partners. 38 We dont share any feelings or experiences that would make us feel emotional
10、ly fragile and we do not talk about feelings toward each other. The loss of a low-stakes friend may be regrettable, but it does not leave any mark in our lives.According to Professor Harry Stack Sullivan, the first high-stakes friendship is typically formed in pre-adolescence with a friend of the sa

Chumship is a relationship in which the other persons interest and security become as important as ones own. 39 The preadolescent who successfully enters a chumship finds someone with whom she can share her innermost thoughts and feelings. To her chum, she can reveal what s

The “fliers are thrown in the air, held by bases in different positions that require strength and cooperation with other teammates. And just as basketball and fo
17、otball have guidelines for competitive play, so does competitive cheerleading. 18 And the cheerleaders are required to stay within a certain area.19 Just like gymnasts, competitive cheerleaders are awarded points for difficulty, technique, and sharpness. The more difficult a mount, the sharper the m
18、otions, the better the score. Cheerleading is a team sport, so without cooperation, the first place is out of reach.Some people argue cheerleaders are just “girls in skirts with their only job to entertain the crowd. 20 Cheerleaders today compete against other teams and work as hard as other athlete
