Read for some background informationTibetan antelopes: Tibetan antelopes live on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau（青藏高原）at altitudes（海拔） between 4,000 and

3、5,500 metres above sea level and can run at speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour.In the 1980s and 1990s, some 20,000 Tibetan antelopes（羚羊) were killed by smuggler（走私者）because a shawl（围巾，披肩）made from their hair could charge as much as $ 30,000. The number of the species dropped to less than 70,000

4、.Therefore, the government has set up several nature reserves to protect them. Each year, Tibetan antelopes move to the northern area with a cooler climate and rich water and grass resources to lamb in June and July and return with their offspring in August, The Qinghai-Tibet Railway lies right in t

5、heir path. In June, in order to let some 300,000 future mother antelopes pass without disturbance. The workers shut down their machines and pull down their sign boards and sign flags. They stop working for four days to make way for them. In August, when these Tibetan antelopes return with their chil

6、dren, they stop working once again. Moreover, the builders do their best to reduce noise in areas close to nature reserves. Thanks to effective protection efforts, there are now around 300,000 Tibetan antelopes in the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau area, and the population is steadily climbing. Changtang N

7、ature Reserve： Changtang National Nature Reserve was set up in 1990s. It is the worlds second largest nature reserve as well as habitat for many endangered species. It is a wildlife paradise and home to a variety of wildlife species such as Tibetan antelopes, wild yaks (牦牛), Tibetan wild donkeys and

8、 black-necked cranes(鹤).In a bid to (为了) monitor and prevent the occurrence of plague （瘟疫灾害）among wildlife the department concerned have set up four national wildlife epidemic prevention stations and 67 monitoring spots, effectively safeguarding the wildlife inhabitants migration and reproduction. 9、lose look: Guardians of Tibetan AntelopesFor many people catching a glimpse of a Tibetan Antelope would be something fun. But watching them for years may not be so entertaining. Antelope guardians, usually young people, spend years in the remote area to protect these lovely creatures. Sonsen Nambo i

10、s 28 years old. He has been working here as an antelope guardian for more than seven years at an attitude of 4,500 meters. He and his colleagues daily routine includes patrolling inhabited areas, tracking vehicle marks, checking suspicious hunters and occasionally, collecting lost young Tibetan Ante

11、lopes.Life is tough here. For Sonsen Nambo and his colleagues, a warm meal is often hard to come by.
