2、nt in Excess of 1Aa dropout voltage of typically 0.5V and a maximum ofOutput Voltage Trimmed Before Assembly1V over the entire temperature range.Furthermore,aquiescent current reduction circuit has been includedReverse Battery ProtectionwhichreducesthegroundcurrentwhentheInternal Short Circuit Curre
3、nt Limitdifferential between the input voltage and the outputMirror Image Insertion Protectionvoltage exceeds approximately 3V.The quiescentcurrent with 1A of output current and an input-outputP+Product Enhancement Testeddifferential of 5V is therefore only 30 mA.Higherquiescent currents only exist
4、when the regulator is inthe dropout mode(VIN VOUT 3V).Designed also for vehicular applications,the LM2940-N/LM2940C and all regulated circuitry are protectedfrom reverse battery installations or 2-battery jumps.During line transients,such as load dump when theinput voltage can momentarily exceed the
5、 specifiedmaximumoperatingvoltage,theregulatorwillautomatically shut down to protect both the internalcircuits and the load.The LM2940/LM2940C cannotbeharmedbytemporarymirror-imageinsertion.Familiar regulator features such as short circuit andthermal overload protection are also provided.Typical App
6、lication*Required if regulator is located far from power supply filter.*COUTmust be at least 22 F to maintain stability.May be increased without bound to maintain regulation duringtransients.Locate as close as possible to the regulator.This capacitor must be rated over the same operatingtemperature

16、ill air with no heatsink)is 60C/W for theTO-220 package,80C/W for the DDPAK/TO-263 package,and 174C/W for the SOT-223 package.The effective value of JAcan bereduced by using a heatsink(see Application Hints for specific information on heatsinking).The value of JAfor the WSON package isspecifically d
17、ependent on PCB trace area,trace material,and the number of layers and thermal vias.For improved thermal resistanceand power dissipation for the WSON package,refer to Application Note AN-1187(SNOA401).It is recommended that 6 vias be placedunder the center pad to improve thermal performance.(4)Refer
