1、Unit 5 The power of nature 教学设计第2课时Period 2 Language Study一、教学内容分析The emphasis of this period will be placed on the important new words, phrases and sentence patterns in Warming Up, Pre-reading, Reading, Comprehending and Discovering useful words and expressions in Learning about Language.There are

2、altogether 44 new words and phrases in these five parts. 17 of them are marked with triangles, which shows that the students neednt leam them by heart.lt is enough to recognize them when meeting them while reading the passage.The other 27 should all be remembered, among which the following words and

3、 expressions are even more important: absolutely, make ones way, alongside, appoint, wave, suit, potential, actual.They are all very useful and important.So are the sentence patterns “Having collected and evaluated the information, I help other scientists to predict where lava from the volcano will

8、评审某物的质量，或估计某人的才能等。value与appraise的含义很近，即“估计某物的价值、价格”。其区别在于 appraise强调“行家的估计，而value用于-般人所作的“估计。evaluate表示通过仔细的考察对能力、成就或等级等进行判断、评估、鉴定。assess的原义是对某商品进行估价，以期决定应收多少税。词义引申之后， assess通常表示“估计”出某物的价值，以更有效地利用它。appreciate是前面这几个词的近义词，它的意思是“鉴赏”，即充分了解某 物或某人的价值或才能，以期批判地欣赏或赏识o appreciate的同义词应为value, treasure, cherish
