45、芦笙。笙六管，作二尺。笙节参差，吹且歌，手则翔矣，足则扬矣，睐转肢回，旋神荡矣。初则欲接还离，少且酣飞扬舞，交驰迅速逐矣。”由此看 出芦笙在古代苗族人民生活中的作用和地位。 现在芦笙的形制已发生了很大变革，分大、中、小等多种类型。均由笙管、笙斗和簧片三部分构成。常用的芦笙管6根，外侧开有接音孔，下端装置铜簧，插入一长形木头葫芦内，每簧一音。在每二三根笙管上端合套竹管作为共鸣管。小芦笙的管长十几公分，大芦笙长 四、五米不等。低音芦笙类中，有在大竹筒内装一细竹管，发音者称为“芦笙筒”。现经改革，笙管数增至20余根，每管上端均套用薄铜皮制作的共鸣管，音域可达两个八度又五度。芦笙音色明亮浑厚，男女均可

48、另两匹马进场。互相循环决斗，最后确定获胜的前三名。这时人们围拢前来，观赏着满身汗水的获胜马匹，啧啧称赞。胜马的主人也满面笑容地接受人们的祝贺。组织者在群众的簇拥下给胜马披红挂彩，给马的主人发奖。 赛马是对骑手们勇敢和技艺的严峻考验，苗族山区，岭高路陡，羊肠小道，崎岖不平。它要求竞赛者胆大心细，骑术娴熟。竞赛开始，骑手们在五六米远之外，急步前跑，腾空上马。马背无鞍，骑者双腿夹紧马身，马儿在盘山小路上向前飞奔，惊心动魄的场面，令人注目神怡。最先到达终点的骑手得到赞扬和奖励。 斗马的那几天，小伙子和姑娘们非常活跃。他们集中在山坡上，开 展赛芦笙，“踩堂”等活动。从贵州以及附近村寨前来参加斗马盛会的各族群众，多达两万人以上，不少人还带来香菇，木耳、兽皮、药材、干笋等土特产交换，增添了热烈的气氛。 踩花山是境内苗族人民的盛大传统节日，一般在每年农历正月初 一、初 三、初六这几天举办。凡有苗族居住的各县，这几天都要立花杆，举行隆重的踩花山活动。这既是苗族男女青年谈情说爱的好时机，也是苗族人民开展文体娱乐活动的重要场所。
