2、.A)My mother died last year,aged 107.As I was 74 at that time,and as noone is fully grown-up until both their parents are dead(so they say),Iprobably remained a child well into old age.I was a“bonded“child.Abonding between mother and child was essential for the wellbeing andhealthy development of th
3、e baby,and she determined that was how itwould be between us.A strong,long-lasting attachment between a babyand mother,father,carer,or whoever,is the most important factor ininfant development.B)So I was cherished.She had tried very hard to bond with my brother,bornthree years earlier,but he had dem
4、onstrated that he wasnt having any ofit.He was pleased when I arrived,therefore,as it meant that the spotlightof attention moved from him to me.I was the bonding type.My mummywas the best mummy in the world.No one understood me hke mymummy,and most importantly no one talked to me like my mummy.Becau
5、se talk she did.All about her childhood,her mother,her father,herbrothers and sisters,and the First World War.C)She was Mummy.We had the war,we had Hitler but I was alwaysgoing to be safe because I had Mummy;I was seriously ill but I got betterbecause I had Mummy;we had the 1947 snow and ice for thr
6、ee monthsbut it was fine because,when I got home,I had Mummy and she put mywoolen gloves and socks on top of the boiler to dry.In the summer wehad a heat wave and she made jugs of lemonade.D)But we all grew up and our perceptions altered.The adult I became foundMother much less perfect than the chil
7、d had done.I realized that some ofher opinions were racist,some were snobbish all were ill-thought out.She was also a nuisance interfering in my life,worrying about mywelfare continually and wanting to know every last detail of my existenceso that she could worry about me further.She telephoned me d
8、aily,wemet for shopping trips involving lengthy,conversational lunches-andevery time we chat I let slip personal information I had intended to keepto myself.E)Why was this?I had no idea.I only knew that the habit of“tellingMummy everything and“always telling Mummy the truth”was one Iwas unable to br
9、eak.I had given her another rope to reel me back in with.Another rope with which she could bond me.How could I lead anindependent life if Mother was always part of it?She criticized my choiceof friends,my hairstyle,and my clothes and,of course,any men Iassociated with were always unsuitable.We argue
10、d.She told me shewanted me to be happy.I told her she was possessive.She said she didnthave a daughter any more.I said she was being melodramatic.She cried.I told her to shut up.She told me I had turned into a horrible person.Icried.I said sorry.She said sorry.So it went on.Year after year.F)I marri

19、eting.With the nations exports booming,Miami Dade College hasexpanded its program to train people to become private customs brokers facilitators of overseas shipping.Seeing how Google,Facebook andTwitter have exploded in popularity,New York University and RutgersUniversity have set up programs in di
20、gital marketing.C)Weve become much more focused,much more flexible and much moredriven by what the data is telling us on where the jobs are,“said BobTemplin,president of Northern Virginia Community College.Werevery market-oriented now,whereas before we would offer the coursesthat people were interes
21、ted in teaching and wed see who would show up.In the last 24 months,weve thoroughly reorganized ourcontinuing-education unit,and we now refer to it as Work ForceDevelopment in Continuing Education5.D)Sensitive to employers5 needs,Northern Virginia Community College hasbegun offering continuing-educa

23、icials where deercommonly cross roads and cause accidents.E)President Obama has recognized the important role that the nations 1,200community colleges and their continuing-education programs play insupplying employers with workers possessing in-demand skills.Everybody in America should be able to ge
24、t those skills at a communitycollege,5 Mr.Obama said in a Feb.13 speech at Northern VirginiaCommunity College.Companies looking to hire should be able to counton these schools to provide them with a steady stream of workersqualified to fill those specific jobs.In that speech,Mr.Obama proposedcreatin
25、g an$8 billion Community College to Career Fund,with the goalof training two million workers for good-paying jobs in growingindustries.F)In New Jersey,Rutgers University has“as many students each year incontinuing education 50,000 as we do each year in all of our degreeprograms,5 said David Finegold
