1、National Postgraduate EntranceExamination 2020:The stresstest for 3.41 million peopleChinas National Postgraduate Entrance Examination(NPEE)for 2020ended on December 22,ushering in a moment of relief for candidatesafter months of struggle.Earlier,the ministry of education announced that 3.41 million

2、 studentshad entered the examination this year,breaking the three million markfor the first time.The number of people taking part in the NPEE has been on the rise inrecent years.According to the report,the number of people who tookpart in the NPEE surged by 520,000 last year compared with the yearbe

3、fore,and this year saw another 510,000 more than 2018.However,in the past five years,the number of applicants for the NPEEhas increased much faster than the number of enrollment.And the reason these people partake in the examination is also different.Candidates say.Meng Chenzhen,a civil engineering

4、graduate from a Project 985university in Beijing wanted to go to Shanghai Jiao Tong University(SJTU)for further studies.He left school in early July and went straight toShanghai,where he rented an apartment near SJTU six months inadvance.Huang Yixin,a senior student at SJTU,is still studying at his

5、university.Helikes his major of Control Technology and Instruments.He feels that hisundergraduate courses are not enough,so he has to continue withpostgraduate studies.Gong Yehan,a senior at the School of Statistics and Management atShanghai University of Finance and Economics(SUGE)applied for theDe

6、partment of Statistics at the Central University of Finance andEconomics in Beijing because she wanted to go to the capital.Liu Daqing,who has applied for the Department of ElectronicEngineering at Xiamen University,said he took the entrance exam mainlyto find a good job and gain more initiative in

7、the future.He noted thatsocial competition pressure is too big,and the undergraduate graduatesalary is rising slowly right now.Also,some positions also have explicitgraduate qualifications.Liu added that he does not have the confidence to obtain employmentimmediately after graduation from his degree

8、 alone.In recent years,the popularity of the NPEE has been increasing,with avariety of factors prompting candidates to apply for the exam,accordingto the National Graduate Enrollment Survey Report for the Year 2020,which was released on December 18.One of the main motivations for choosing to take th

9、e NPEE is to improvethe core competitiveness of employment.Another main motivation is toenhance their knowledge structure and cultural level,as the report said.And the third motivation is to take the exam to obtain a postgraduatedegree.At present,the steady development of economy and structuraltrans

10、formation in China have brought forward the urgent demand forhigh-level personnel training,and candidates have increasingly higherrequirements for improving their competitiveness.Experts say.An advanced degree can bring advantages but also come at a great costto time.The role of education background

11、 in recruitment is still there,said Chu Zhaohui,a researcher at the National Institute of EducationSciences,he said there are also problems behind the craze for NPEE.Although an advanced degree can bring advantages,the comparativetime and opportunity cost is also higher and candidates should take theirconditions and career plans into account and make a rational decision,Chu added.
