2、ormation1.AboutHiroshima2.AtomicBombHiroshima#Hiroshima Hiroshima,city on southwestern Honsh Island,Japan,capital of Hiroshima Prefecture,is at the head of Hiroshima Bay,an arm of the Inland Sea.The city was founded in 1594 on six islands in the ta River Delta.The name Hiroshima means broadIsland.Hi
3、roshima grew rapidly as a castle town and commercial city,and after 1868 it was developed as a militarycenter.On August6,1945,during World War II(1939-1945),the first atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima,a military center,by the United States Army Air Forces.According to U.S.estimates,60
4、,000 to 70,000 people were killed or missing as a result of the bomb and many more were made homeless.(In 1940,the population of Hiroshima was 343,698.)AtomicBombingoverHiroshima#Manymorelaterdiedofinjuriesandthe effects of radiation.Casualtiesnumbered nearly 130,000.Survivorsarestilldyingofleukemia
