3、y (476-221 BC). According to legend, Qu Yuan was an exiled government official who was deeply beloved by the people of the Chu kingdom, where he had served as a minister. Qu Yuan committed suicide by jumping into the Miluo River when his beloved country was invaded and conquered by the Qin kingdom.
4、When his body was never recovered from the river, the townsfolk began to drop packets of rice and zong zi (a sticky rice dumpling filled with different meats, nuts and vegetables) into the water in order to keep the fish away from his body.Since then, the Dragon Boat Festival has been celebrated on
5、the fifth day of the fifth month by racing dragon boats, eating zong zi, and drinking realgar wine. Dragon boat races are a highlight of the festivities; the boats are shaped like dragons and decorated with colorful streamers and flags.
