Captain Fawcetts first passenger was a doctor who flew from Birmingham to a lonely village in the Welsh mountains. Since then, Captain Fawcett has flown passengers

3、to many unusual places. Once he landed on the roof of a block of flats and on another occasion, he landed in a deserted car park. Captain Fawcett has just refused a strange request from a businessman. The man wanted to fly to Rockall, a lonely island in the Atlantic Ocean, but Captain Fawcett did no

9、casion, he landed in a deserted car park. 一次，他把飞机降落在了一栋公寓楼的屋顶上，还有一次，降落在了一个废弃的停车场上。这是一个由and连接的并列句。and前面的句子中a block of flats表示一栋公寓楼，a block在此表示一栋。Block在我们表达地址时经常用到，例如：Flat 1501, Block 5A, Sunny Bay Estate, Baoan District, Shenzhen.深圳市宝安区阳光海小区5A栋2205号and后面的句子中deserted是个形容词，表示无人居住的，废弃的。desert可以用作动词表示废弃、

10、放弃；还可以用作名词表示沙漠、荒漠，这时读/dezt/。如：Why did you desert teaching for politics? (作动词)你为什么弃教从政呢？The climate is very dry in the desert. (作名词)沙漠里气候很干燥与desert相似的单词是dessert，多了1个s，dessert表示甜点。如：Would you like some coffee or dessert?你要不要来点咖啡或甜点？occasion表示场合、时机。如：Im sorry that I cant be with you on such an importan

11、t occasion.很抱歉我不能在这么重要的场合和你在一起。5. The man wanted to fly to Rockall, a lonely island in the Atlantic Ocean. 这个人想要飞往大西洋上的一个孤岛-罗卡尔岛。句中a lonely island in the Atlantic Ocean.这个短语是用作补语，来补充说明前面的名词Rockall.Atlantic Ocean指大西洋，其它的三大洋分别是：Pacific Ocean 太平洋 Indian Ocean 印度洋Arctic Ocean 北冰洋6. but Captain Fawcett d
