As we were finishing up the evening, one of my friends told us a sad story that had happened the day before. Her sons friend, who was in his mid-tw
2、enties and self-employed, lived on the second floor of a house nearby. Someone who lived on the first floor had been smoking and fell asleep. The house burned down. All the occupants escaped, but the house was completely destroyed with everything in it.All this young man had were the clothes on his
3、back and his pickup truck. He had no family in the area and nowhere to go. My friend was putting him up for a few days until he could decide what to do next.Those of us sitting at the dinner table were horrified. Everyone started opening their wallets to contribute money. My friend put up her hand a
4、nd said, “He will not accept money. We tried to convince him, but he just wont take it. All he wants is a warm coat and some used clothing if anyone has some.We were all more than happy to fulfill this request and were told that he wore a size 2XL. None of us knew men who wore that size, so it was c
5、hallenging to take care of this quickly.It was a typically cold New York Christmas, and I couldnt imagine him without a coat. I shed some tears on the drive home, a combination of grateful tears for the blessings I had in my life and sad tears for this poor young man.I lay on the bed, sleepless and
6、womed. Then a clear thought sprang to mind. I was to visit a nearby thrift store and find this young man a coat. For some reason, I felt very compelled to make this happen. I was not used to things like this happening to me, and I could not figure out why I was so obsessed. Nor did I know why I shou
7、ld feel obligated to lend him a hand. However, I could not put it out of my mind.The next morning, I hurried to the thrift shop. I went through every coat and jacket but found nothing even close to what I needed. As I headed toward the exit, I considered trying to find something in a department stor
8、e. Suddenly, a lady came out of the back room, so I stopped to explain the story to her.She went in the back and returned a couple of minutes later saying there was nothing else.It was perfect!
