1、长难句分析:whether的用法讲义原句“Everyone can play a part in reducing waste, whether by not purchasing more food than necessary in your weekly shopping or by asking restaurants to not include the side dish you wont eat/1 Curtin says.（ 2022 年新高考 I 卷阅读理解 B篇）在上一篇文章里，我们讲到了主句配合介词短语“from A to B”体现的“概括一一具 体”的语句内部逻辑。所谓

2、概括和具体，实际上就是我们经常谈到的“总分”，是英文的 语句、段落和篇章里应用最为频繁的逻辑结构。这次的语句中涉及的“whether . or . 并列结构，同样属于总分逻辑的实际应用。除去句尾不重要的“Curtin says”以外，引号里的句子可以拆分成三个部分：Everyone can play a part in reducing waste 主句 whether by not purchasing more food than necessary in your weekly shopping 并列结构一or by asking restaurants to not include t

3、he side dish you wont eat 并列结构二主句部分Everyone can play a part in reducing waste每个人都可以在减少浪费方面发挥 作用主句部分是一个在写作中非常好用的句式模板：play a part in doing sth在某方 面发挥作用。doing在这里面就是个动名词，也可以直接替换成名词。在part前面还 可以加入各种描述程度的形容词，比如important, vital、essential这些表示“重要的”， 整个模板的内在逻辑就是某人或某物发挥了重要作用一一具体在什么方面重要”。各 位可以参看下面的例句：His suggest

7、用whether不用if ； 6、在某些动词如discuss后只用whether不用if ；. 这些规则在我看来根本不需要记，你需要知道的只有一条一一表示“是否只用 whether不用ifo在“是否”这个含义上，if的功能whether都包括,也就是说if是 whether的真子集，那么只要写whether就是最保险的。至于if ,只要用来表示“如果 的意思就好了。在表示“是否”的时候,whether主要作为各种名词性从句的引导词，可以出现在 主语、宾语、同位语的位置。有的时候还会在whether后面配合or not ,其实含义上 并没有区别。Whether they consider thi

10、同的，比如happy 和sad都是形容词。如果两者有些共同的部分那么可以出现省略的现象比如you like 和dislike ,实际上是you dislike省略了前面共同的you , he wins和loses ,实际上是 he loses省略了前面共同的heo在这次的句子里,我们看到的也是完全相同性质的两部分：by not purchasing more food than necessary in your weekly shopping和by asking restaurants to not include the side dish you wont eat,一边是by not d

14、ght gain and obesity.相信所有人看到这种语法现象复杂，生词众多的句子都会比较崩溃，但是只要抓 住了“whetheror”结构的作用，这个句子其实就是纸老虎。“无论还是”只是 罗列了两种具体情况，which从句只是补充，所以整个句子的核心就只有最后的两个 短句“身体变得不积极”和“体重增加”。这就是在阅读理解里对待whetheror”结构 的态度一一whether和or涉及的是不重要的信息，是“分”的部分，可以忽略，重点是 “总”的部分，也就是主句的内容。这次的句子，重点也只是“每个人都可以在减少浪费 方面发挥作用”而已。结构分析“Everyone can play a part in reducing waste, whetherby not purchasing more food than necessary in your weekly shopping or by asking restaurants to not include the side dish you wont eat/ Curtin says.中文翻译柯廷说：“每个人都可以在减少浪费方面发挥作用，无论是在你每周的购物中不购 买超过必需数量的食物，还是要求餐厅不要加入你不吃的配菜。”
