2、eds reforming. A teacher- centered class is a typical traditional passive class. 3、ed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student. When information is presented to students, it goes into the working memory of their brain. But the information quickly fades away unless something is done to trigger its move into the brains long-term memory where it is stored and recall
4、ed later. I think the teacher-centered class can no longer foster those kinds of so called talents who can fulfill the needs of this fast developing society. It will only make students passive listeners. In order to change the teacher-centered teaching model into the student-centered one, Schlechty
5、(1994) pointed out that teachers should keep students needs, interests, and learning styles in mind, apply several kinds of teaching techniques, organize different classroom activities and encourage, praise and appreciate both students success and learning process all the time. If teachers place mor
6、e responsibility in the hands of students, serve as presenter or facilitator of knowledge instead of source of all knowledge (Wolk, p. 19), they can greatly motivate students to learn the language in a very active, cooperative and effective way. After all, people learn by doing, not only by watching
7、 and listening. Learning is personal. Learning is an individual experience that must be internalized and integrated by each student. When teachers present to the class, each student must adapt and apply the lesson to his or her own knowledge. This is the reason for pairing, small groups, and interac
8、tive activities. We know that a student-centered class is a kind of new active class, resulting from the quality-oriented education system. Students have quite different opinions about the objective of their study.Some of them hold that a diploma is certainly something they are working for in colleg
9、e. They believe that the diploma will enlarge the opportunities in their job-hunting.So their college life is almost focused completely on book learning. This is a very common phenomenon. Nottingham (2009) states that although active learning has been defined in many ways, it essentially consists of
