Begin by having each student write a short story about an event that made them sad, happy, confused, or upset. For examp

The other students then have to guess what the story was about.Cultural notesIt needs to be stressed to students that the cultural points expressed in the passage vary quite a bit in seriousness, depending upon the country or area. For example,
5、 while in Japan many young people look down when talking to an older person, it is unlikely that a foreigner would cause offence by looking someone in the eye. However, in some countries, the use of the “OK” sign can be quite offensive and may cause great problems, as it is seen as a vulgar insult.
6、In addition, many gestures may seem easy to understand and perform, but are guided by complex social rules that a visitor may not know about. If these gestures are done incorrectly, it can cause great problems. This is especially true of gestures that involve bodily contact. For example, in places w
7、here people kiss on the cheek as a greeting, the kiss is sometimes an “air kiss“ 一 there is no actual physical contact between the lips and the cheek一 and it could cause problems if a real kiss is made. Further, in many countries, kissing on the cheek is more common between women, and it may be frow
8、ned upon for a man to kiss another man, or a woman he does not know well.
